“A vibrancy that is thrilling” Irish Independent

Caroline Moreau released her second album “Amour toujours etc…” on September 16th. Alongside Dermot Dunne and Lucas Gonzalez, Caroline will be bringing the album to life for Irish audiences.

Moreau performs from the rawer side of the chanson tradition, unearthing traditional French folk songs and sea-shanties as well as revisiting the masterpieces of chanson that she has made her own – “These songs are often related to different phases of my life. One is a old traditional sea shanty I used to sing busking on the streets of tiny villages in Brittany. ‘Oblivion’
by Astor Piazzolla reminds me of a long trip I made through Argentina seven years ago discovering real tango music. ‘Les Insomnies’ is directly linked to my night life suffering as I do from insomnia. ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas’ is one of the saddest love songs ever written in French. The guy begs the girl not to leave him, he’s even happy to be the shadow of her shadow, the shadow of her hand, the shadow of her dog. What a life!!”

“Amour toujours etc…” is a wink to Serge Gainsbourg’s controversial adaptation of “La Marseillaise” which he entitled “Aux armes etc…” The story of this album started in June 2011 when Caroline’s long time collaborator guitarist Ariel Hernandez decided to return to his native Argentina. Ariel and Caroline had developed an extraordinary musical chemistry since they first met on an Irish stage in 2006 so the pair decided to record the set they had performed onstage together for six years into an album, just as a souvenir. Little by little, what at the start was as to be a ‘souvenir for us’ became a vibrant, artistic project. The album was recorded live in just two days by Stuart Gray in Jealoustown Studios and featured a host of musicians of caliber including Malachy Robinson and Ariel Hernandez with current collaborators Dermot Dunne and Lucas Gonzalez.

Since the release of her debut album, Caroline has continued to evolve as a compelling, alluring vocalist “My debut album ‘Paris Is Burning’ was recorded seven years ago and a lot of songs are sung with what I call ‘full voice’. On this new album, I allowed myself to be more subtle, to stay in pianissimo for one or two phrases then explode into fortissimo which requires more technical skill. As well as that, seven years in a life is a lot. I’m different and my voice is too because my life has changed me”.

Caroline is eager to showcase the songs to a live audience “I love all the songs on my album. Some are very famous because they’re communicating something strong, powerful and bigger than us. A song, for me, is like a small box, a stock cube of emotion that melts in your soul while you’re listening to it. If the recipe is right, the taste is powerful, astonishing and can nourish your heart, your ear and your soul”.

Since 2002, Caroline Moreau has been wowing Irish audiences with her distinctive brand of Gallic charm, comic banter and heart-stopping vocal talent. Taking over Bewley's Cabaret Theatre in a haze of heavily accented patter and superb showmanship, her debut show "Crime Passionnel" was delivered with passionate conviction and became a sell-out. Since then, she has performed as a solo artist, in a double-act with acclaimed gypsy violin virtuoso Oleg Ponomarev and with a range of internationally respected musicians in venues all across Ireland and in the UK, France & Spain.

What the press say:

“Timeless and unapologetically contemporary … Caroline Moreau’s music belongs to another time and yet manages to root itself in the present with a rare vitality. Her voice is that perfectly pitched combination of French sultriness and quintessentially European insouciance. Debuts don’t come much more accomplished than this.” **** IRISH TIMES

“What Caroline Moreau does is simultaneously meet our expectations and blow them to smithereens…with a vibrancy that is thrilling… Moreau embodies the voice of each song, not only with her own very sturdy pipes, but also with her body and soul: she becomes the entire world of the song, and proves herself to be a convincing actress in the process.” **** IRISH INDEPENDENT

“The arrival on Moreau on stage, with her swaggering moves and theatrical delivery, upped the ante.” **** IRISH EXAMINER

“The elements of instrumental virtuosity and theatrically-inspierd vocalisng merged to produce a concert of warmth, passion, humour, and musical excellence.” ****CLARE PEOPLE
